ROBERT L. PIERCE MEMORIAL AWARD

DESCRIPTION:

The Stanford Alumni Association announces the 1999 Robert L. Pierce Memorial Award, a $2,000 cash grant to an innovative project for the 1999-00 academic year. Mr. Pierce was the director of the Stanford Alumni Association from 1956-70. His deep interest in Stanford students and his creative spirit are sustained in this award. The purpose of the award is to encourage students to enrich their own Stanford experience with a creative project that serves the student community. It is intended to provide funding that would otherwise not be available. The Alumni Association invites all interested students to submit proposals and join the ranks of past award winners including Counterpoint (1979), Project Smiles (1990), Hip Hop Night (1992), Full Moon Faerie Tales (1994), Stanford Film Society (1995) and Ujamaa Archives (1996).

 

ELIGIBILITY:

All full-time graduate or undergraduate students who will be registered for the 1999-00 school year are invited to submit proposals for consideration by the Pierce Award Selection Committee. Individuals and groups will receive equal consideration. A group need not yet be officially recognized by the University to be eligible. Project proposals must be submitted in writing and include a detailed budget, according to the attached application. After the Committee has reviewed all the written applications, selected finalists will be asked to present their ideas in person.

TIMETABLE:

May 3, 1999 Last day (no exceptions) for submission of completed written proposals to Bowman Alumni House. Due by 12:00 noon. May 7, 1999 Applicants will be narrowed down to a select group of finalists. Finalists will be contacted and asked to present their idea in person to the Selection Committee before May 12. May 13, 1999 Stanford Alumni Association Executive Board Meeting. Approval of Robert L. Pierce Award winner made by Alumni Relations Committee of the Board. May 18, 1999 1999 Pierce Award winner announced. Sept. 1999 - June 2000 Winner works closely with the Stanford Alumni Association staff to implement the program and establish year-long schedule. Project leader regularly reports financial status and project progress to Alumni Association staff. Spring 2000 Winner sits on the 2000 Robert L. Pierce Award Selection Committee.
